Millennium Library Events for May and June

Theatre+ Arts Passes are your ticket to discover theatre and the arts. Each pass allows FREE entry for two to a production.

Volunteers are needed to lead weekly English Conversation groups, starting this fall. Commitments of up to 3 months are required. Orientations and training provided.

READ AWAY YOUR FINES!
Children and teens, up to 17 years, whose library borrowing privileges have been suspended are invited to read away those fines.
For details, please ask library staff.

May: Asian Heritage Society of Manitoba
June: Lily Lim and Paul Toews - present “Rhapsody in Bloom”. 
They will be in the gallery June 7, 2 until 4 p.m.

May 31 starting at 1 p.m., Millennium Library, Carol Shields Auditorium
Pitch your idea in front of a panel of Manitoba-based publishers, and an audience. You will have three minutes to present, followed by two minutes of questions from the publishers. 
Register between May 1 -15. Include “Pitch the Publisher” in the subject line.
Those chosen will be notified by May 25 so that they have time to prepare.
Or just come and watch! All are welcome to attend, no registration needed.

May 7 - 10, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Wednesday through Friday
Saturday will feature “Family Storytelling Hour” at 1 p.m. 
Free admission and are open to the public.
Storytellers include:
Carolyn Gray: Director of the MWG, actor, director, playwright, puppeteer and designer. 
Kent Suss: Theatre School Director of the MTYP. He has written and directed several plays.
Clare Murphy: part of Talking Skull Collective, dedicated to the art of storytelling.

KeyCon 31 presents Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Silvia has edited several anthologies including the Canadian zombie fiction collection Dead North and is the publisher of Innsmouth Free Press.  Her debut novel, Signal to Noise, will be out next year.

Written Up: a Public Reading - “Writing Trans Genres” - A conference to discuss emerging literature by trans-gender, transsexual, two-spirit, and genderqueer writers.

Cornish Library will be part of Doors Open. Built in 1915 as the result of a grant from Andrew Carnegie, this historic building has many of its original architectural features, including fireplaces, oak tables and paneling.

Through his blogs West End Dumplings and Winnipeg Downtown Places, Christian Cassidy has researched the social history of more than 300 buildings. Christian will take you through the steps of researching the history of a building and the people and businesses associated with it.
