A SEWING ACTION AND ARTIST TALK e mail: Leah Decter and Jaimie L. Isaac

In June, 2008, Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued an official “Statement of Apology to former students of Indian Residential Schools.”
In September, 2009 at the G20 Summit in Pittsburg he stated publicly in reference to Canada that, “we also have no history of Colonialism”.

(official denial) trade value in progress appropriates the latter statement as a springboard for critical exchange. A composite of Hudson Bay Blankets with this statement machine-sewn at its centre acts as a platform for dialogue about contemporary conditions.
The project invites all Canadians to respond to Harper’s G20 statement.

In Sewing Actions participants hand-sew collected responses onto the blanket.
