Art + Body: See Me Hear Festival l MoMondays Winnipeg l Ladies Night for Osborne House

Arts & Disability Network Manitoba is hosting the 2nd annual
Art + Body: See Me Hear festival

September 12 - St. Boniface Library's Art + Body: See Me Hear exhibition
A four-week juried art show featuring works by local artists with disabilities. These pieces explore and challenge the relationship between isolation and communication.

October 10 - Plug In ICA, Unit 1 - 460 Portage Avenue
October 11 - Winnipeg Art Gallery, 300 Memorial Blvd.

The October event is packed with performances, artist talks and artwork by artists with disabilities, as well as local comedian Big Daddy Tazz, pianist Jeremy Rusu, and feature performer, Christine Sun Kim, an internationally-renowned sound artist from New York.

Presented in conjunction with the send + receive international sound-art festival, the 2nd annual Art + Body fair revolves around the different ways of engaging body senses when one sense is interrupted, amplified, or gone.

Being deaf silences sounds but on the upside it enriches the visual world, says local artist Alice Crawford. Her fabric piece, “Communication, Expressive Hands, Understand” depicts ASL as a practical, beautiful way of expressing ideas, thoughts and emotions.

“Red Dress,” represents photographer Marie LeBlanc's inner beauty in a world that is chaotic and confusing. My multiple disabilities allow me to see things from a different perspective, one which I choose to communicate through the lens of the camera.

Arts & Disability Network Manitoba is a regional not-for-profit organization dedicated to the full inclusion of artists and audiences with disabilities into all facets of the arts community. Their vision is to inspire artists and all "temporarily able-bodied" stakeholders to take to heart the mantra: arts for all.
