September 2013 at Oak Hammock Marsh - Fall Suppers


Labour Day Adventure

August 31 to September 2 
See the migrating birds return during a Birding Marshwalk as a nature interpreter guides you. Participate in a Sonic Sleuth Walk and tune into the sounds of the marsh using a hand-held listening device.

Explore the marsh either in a Voyageur-style canoe for a one-hour excursion or by Horse-Drawn Wagon Ride. A fee of $5 for non-members and $3 for members apply to the canoe excursions and the wagon rides. 
Wagon rides only on Monday - 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Archaeology, Rocks and Mineral Weekend

September 14 & 15 - Archaeology, Rocks and Mineral Show and Sale 

Learn the techniques of gold panning and discover the many uses of minerals in everyday life. Dig for fossils and be dazzled by the beauty of minerals. Admire the fragile beauty of artifacts, rocks and minerals displayed by the Archaeological Society of Manitoba, the Mineral Society of Manitoba, and the Winnipeg Rocks and Minerals Club. 

Mineral Silent Auction held both days at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. 
Enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride through the marsh on Sunday from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. 
Fees of $3 for members and $5 for non-members apply to this 45 minute ride.

Astronomy Night - Star Party

September 19 - 8 p.m. 

Learn more about the stories behind some of the fall constellations and meet some members of the Royal Astronomy Society of Canada!

Canoe the Unknown

September 22 - 1 p.m. 

Using our voyageur you will be transported by the sights and sounds of Oak Hammock Marsh. An experienced guide will teach you the basic skills of canoeing. (about 2 to 3 hours)

Workshop fee is $10 per person plus admission.

Migration Dinners

September 24 and 26, October 9 and 11 

Experience the sights and sounds of fall migration while enjoying an elegant three-course dinner, followed by a roof-top migration presentation and fly-in of the geese and ducks at sunset. 

Pre-registration is required by the Thursday before the date.
Members $36 (plus tax), $42 (plus tax) for non-members.

Provincial Hunting Day - FREE LUNCH

September 28 - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Learn all aspects of hunting.  Exhibitors will be on hand showcasing their wares and representing various hunting-related organizations. An archery range, hunting dog demos, wild meat samples, as well as prizes and a free lunch from Danny's Whole Hog for the first 500 people.

Migration Festival

Watch live birds of prey with Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre on September 28 
and with Wildlife Haven on September 29 from 12:30 to 4 p.m.  

View songbird banding demonstration from 8 a.m to noon, weather permitting. Join us on the roof for the Fly-in at dusk to watch as thousands of geese return to the safety of the marsh. 
Explore with our horse-drawn wagon ride - daily from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. 
Fees of $3 for members and $5 for non-members for this 30 to 45 minute ride.
