Oak Hammock Marsh: Contest, Crafts, Birds and More - January 2013!

February 2 is World Wetlands Day.
It is particularly fitting for Oak Hammock Marsh to celebrate as the theme for World Wetlands Day this year is Wetlands Take Care of Water.

Click on the link to print the colouring sheet for the contest. 
Colour the page and drop it off or mail it to Oak Hammock Marsh, 
to arrive before February 2.

Astronomy Night - Exploring the 2013 Night Sky
January 17, 7 p.m. 
Enjoy an evening of stories while exploring the night sky.

Bufflehead Decoy Carving Workshop 
January 20, 27 and February 3 - 9 am to 4 pm 

This three day course will teach you the classic North American art of decoy carving.
Pre-registration is required. 
Workshop fee is $70 for Oak Hammock members, $85 for non-members.

Kid's Nature Craft Club
January 26 - 1 pm 

Participants will learn all about birds and make a bird themed board game.
The Club is most appropriate for children ages 5 to 10.
Pre-registration is recommended.
Workshop fee is $5 plus admission.

Snow Carving Workshop
January 27 - 1 pm. 
Pre-registration is required.
Cost is $25 plus admission.
The fee includes all materials and instruction.
Learn the art of snow sculpting with local artist, Ralph Tanchak, who represented Canada in the International Snow Sculpture Symposium at Festival du Voyager in 2010.

First Goose of the Year Contest

Guess the time of the arrival of first Canada Goose at Oak Hammock and you could win a great prize!
The first goose arrives between the end of February and the end of March. 
Last year, the first goose was seen on March 11.
To enter the contest, fill out a ballot at the Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre.

The contest will close on March 1 or when the first goose is seen.
