MCO: Free Concerts: Isabel Bayrakdarian

August 23 -  the Lyric Theatre in Assiniboine Park
August 24 - The Forks under the canopy

Both concerts begin at 7:00 pm, and are about an hour long.

The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra will launch its 40th anniversary season with two free outdoor concerts, featuring Canadian soprano sensation Isabel Bayrakdarian!
MCO Music Director Anne Manson will conduct.
Bayrakdarian will also perform at the season opening concert on September 12.

Bayrakdarian came to international fame through her performance on the soundtrack for The Lord of the Rings; she has worked with the MCO several times. In 2008, the Orchestra accompanied her on tour throughout North America, culminating in a performance at Carnegie Hall in New York that resulted in three curtain calls.

The soprano will record a new CD with the MCO. With music written and arranged by Serouj Kradjian, the repertoire for the recording is inspired by the lives, poetry and music of the trobairitz, European female troubadours of the 12th and 13th centuries. The recording will capture the colours and flavours of legendary trobairitz Ysabella, whose origins and travels are shrouded in mystery.

The concerts and recording will include Trobairitz Ysabella, a major work by Kradjian (premiered by the MCO and Bayrakdarian in 2010), along with works by Ravel and Armenian composer Sayat Nova.
